Would anyone have any issues with Buzz 414 using Rush Dracon main, jib and Sobstad spinnaker at the Nationals next weekend?

We have tried to get the Sobstad sails repaired in time, but P&B have advised that they are shot, and us poor students aren't able to raise the cash for new ones before 27th May.

Stuart Buzz 797 has kindly offered his spare pair, but we'd hate for anything to happen to them, and would rather use our own.

Thanks
Dan and Ryan

While the committees have a very important task to preserve our classes as strict one-designs, there have (in any event for ISO) been several changes in the one-design sails over the years. It may perhaps be prudent to say that the national champion may not become that with Dacron sails, but the important issue from my view is that anyone should be encouraged to take part. From my traditional position at the rear of the fleet, I would not complain/protest if someone with a non-OD sail beat me, almost certainly a result of either better sailing or less (human) ballast. Some of the original pink stripe mains have appeared at events in recent times, if mine is anthing to go by there is an extra inch or more all the way up the leech, more like 2-3 inches at outhaul. That must be worth something.
I would not advocate writing in the class rules that such sails are permitted, but if newcomers are encouraged to take part, they are more likely to keep coming back, and thus help build the future of our classes on the excellent foundations provided by our committees.

Yep - I think most, and probably all, the Buzz fleet echo this. The most important thing is to get people joining in and if past experiences are to go by newcomers should be guaranteed a warm welcome. Look forward to seeing you at HISC.

Happy sailing
Jane and Mark
