I would welcome some help in setting the forestay tension on my BUZZ. I have seen values of 23 and 26 (marked on a Supper Spar rig tension gauge)quoted as the value to select the forestay tension. Having had the opportunity to measure the rig tension on another BUZZ and found their rig tension to be 30, with the swatcher on. I have measured the rig settings for agiven forstay tension with out the swatcher and then applied the swatcher to straighten the lower part of the mast and remeasured the forestay tension and the other rig settings, given below:

Swather Forestay tension Shroud tension Mast rake

OFF 21 32 7.09 metres
ON 25 35 7.11

OFF 23 34 7.11
On 28 36 7.11

OFF 26 34 7.13
ON 27 36 7.15

OFF 28 37 7.17
ON 30 38 7.18

The effect of the swatcher has a marked effect on the forestay tension. This raises the question, are the values quoted on the web site with or without the swatcher on?

The change of mast rake with the application of the swatcher appears to lie with in a small range of values and seem typical of other vales published on the old web site.

Coming to my main point, can any one give me some idea of the forestay tension they use and is there an optimal value of forstay rig tension that should I use.

Thanks to Jane and Mark for there help.

Mike

Hi,

I never have the swatcher on when measuring rig tension, we have 2 marks on our mast to set the jib tension, one at 20 (on the luff) and the other at 25, anywhere between the 2 is fine for us. Our mast rake is generally around the 7.2 mark.

Hope that helps . . .

Stuart and Zoe.
