Just done a practice run to Garda last week (Laser 5000 Eurocup) and thought I would give you the 810 mile ish practically no tolls route details.

Calais - Dunkerque
Dunkerque - Lille
Lille - Mons
Mons - Charleroi
Charleroi - Namur
Namure - Luxembourg (Fuel up in Lux - 44p/Litre)
Lux - Metz
Metz - Saarbruken
Saarbruken - Pirmasens
Pirmasens - Landau
Landau - Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe - Stuttgart
Stuttgart - Munich (Munich area has loads of strict coppers hiding in the bushes!!!)
Munich - Rosenheim
Rosenheim - Innsbruck
Innsbruck - Brenner
Brenner - Bolzano (Bozen)
Bolzano - Rovereto
Rovereto - Mori
Mori - Torbole
Torbole - Nevene
Nevene - Sailing Club
Sailing Club - Malcesine
Malcesine - Vagabondos!

About 3 tolls of about 3 to 6 euros each.
Total none stop except for fuel (unless inflight refuelling) and driver changeovers and quick toilet breaks, is about 14h40min from Calais. Journey average speed of around 55 - 62 mph.

The other route through Switzerland and Gottard tunnel then Milan, is about the same distance +-10 miles, but more expensive on swiss road tax (£40), and Italian tolls etc.

There you go.

(We won the 5000 by the way, me crewing except for the last race)

See you out there in a couple of weeks!

update fuel costs - Luembourg is still much cheaper than anywhere I haven't been myself, so I have selected data from the AA:
Country UK pence per litre
Unleaded Diesel
Austria (Euro) 64.31 53.04
Belgium (Euro) 70.28 53.04
France (Euro) 72.27 57.68
Germany (Euro) 79.56 64.31
Netherlands (Euro) 82.87 56.35
Italy (Euro) 76.24 62.32
Luxembourg (Euro) 62.32 45.08
Switzerland (Swiss Francs) 64.14 63.69
**note that Austria is notably cheaper than Italy, so fill up before you get over the Brenner summit.
Hope the price of a sensible bottle of tasty local wine is still euro 8.50 for 5litres
Richard
