Courtesy of Nobel Marine, I now have a new Hyde main.

I'm slightly unsure about the cunningham setup. The sail has two holes in the foot, maybe 8 inches or so apart.

If the cunningham runs through the bottom one, there isn't enough space between the hole and the boom to put on much cunningham at all.

If it goes through the top hole, as soon as any cunningham is put on, a huge fold gets put in the foot of the sail.

How should it be rigged?

Hi,

I usually use the lower hole so that there isn't a crease, assuming your main goes to the top of the mast fully then it should be just above the boom with the maximum cunningham you should ever require. For info, I don't use as much cunningham with the Hyde sail as the Sobstad.

The other alternative is to use the top hole, but using a system that pulls the bottom of the sail down as the cunningham is put on. This system is used quite a lot, but i don't and therefore i don't have any photos of this set up.

I shall be visiting Hyde later this week so maybe i'll ask them where they intended to have the cunningham connected.

I only ever use the botom hole on the Hydes it saves creasing the sail and they don't need a lot of cuningham anyway. A friend of mine who worked and sailed for Hydes gave me this tip. He has been Fireball Word,National and European champ so knows a thing or two.

Unless you are flyweights like Annie and myself in the ISO, on a windy day, we just pull it on as hard as poss - bends mast as well as flattens sail and therefore flattens sail more!

On the Buzz i don't think it's quite as important, unless you are underweight as you may be in the Iso. The Hydes appear to react differently to the Sobstads, which we put as much Cunningham on as we could when very windy (F6 and above). We did have a very full Sobstad main though, good old one design sails eh!!
