On the 21st and 22nd April 2007, Datchet Water Sailing Club will be hosting the On the Water Show. It’s an ideal opportunity for the ISO class association to show off the ISO to fellow sailors on the water - and a great follow on from the RYA Dinghy Show at Ali Pally.

We need plenty of volounteers to help out. Ideally what we need is :-

Crew on the water doing joy rides in boat 1
Crew on shore doing the talk over boat 2
Crew taking a break / talking on shore over boat 2

This event doesn't clash with any events on the ISO circuit next year so I'm hoping we can get a good turn out.

As the new ISO publicity guy I'm organising this - so volunteers either post in this trail with some contact details or e-mail me direct on jim.trice@metoffice.gov.uk

Thanks,

Jim.

Sounds good - is this something the Buzz fleet could join in. If so can we please have some details (please ignore if someone from the Buzz fleet is already in the loop).

Jane

Hi Jane and Mark,

Not sure if the Buzz guys are coming or not - would be good to see you there! All the info I currently have is posted above but I've just e-mailed Datchet SC so if I get anything interesting back I'll include it in this thread.

Cheers,

Jim.

This is something the Bosses were also thinking of doing, as we can't afford to be at AllyPally next time. Keep posting the details as you get them

Thanks to everyone who has already agreed to help out with this event. I've just spoken with the manager at Datchet Water SC and she will be sending me details over this coming weekend.

I'll post what I get early next week and hopefully we can start making some plans...

We still need some more volunteers so let me know if you fancy coming along. All offers of help will be excepted - even if you just fancy coming down to gawp an a brand new ISO or for an early season blast for an hour or so.

Cheers,

Jim.

I met up with Mike Rogers (the guy organising this event) at the Dinghy Show last weekend. Some details still to work out but I have the following...

We'll have a space on the 'beach' for 1 or 2 boats (our choice) - and a space inside (in case it rains) - but we won't need to organise anything as complicated as the stand at the Dinghy Show. I've got the pics/flyers/t-shirts left over from the Dinghy Show and this will be enough I think.

Mike says there will be camping spaces available for anyone that wants to rough it on the Sat night.

Matt (from Wet and Windy) is looking into getting us an ISO (or two). At the moment it looks likely that we'll have 1 available for sailing - so would be a good opportunity to have a go with the new hull/sails etc.
Barry and Rob are you still keen to have your boat displayed on the shore?

I try to get hold of Mike in the next day or two and get opening times for the event....

I got the following yesterday from Tom Gradon (organiser of the on-the-water show)...

"The basic arrangements are that class associations will be allocated a
table in the large upstairs room in the club house. You can man and use
this space how you wish. We would strongly recommend that you have a
boat available for people to try. It is suggested that one of your
members takes out the interested person."

W & W are still hoping to provide us with a boat but if that fails we have a boat available for Sunday (thanks Dave and Andrew) and I can bring 511 down for Sat if all else fails. I'm not sure if bringing such an old boat would be a positive move or not?! It's not in bad shape but it is very old!

Still need some more volunteers to help chat to the punters and sail the boat(s) though...

Jim.

Tim and Mike. Thanks guys would be good to see you. We've got a few people lined up to come along but no-where near as many as for the Dinghy Show at Ally Pally. Not sure how much travelling it involves for you both but please drop in if you can...

Thanks,

Jim.

I've been trying to organise a test sail in an ISO following the dinghy show. Will there be an oportunity for helm and crew to try one together at this event? Do we need to book or just turn up on the day?
Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,

Just turn up on the day. If you come along on Sat I'll take you each out for a spin in my ISO - once you've got the hang of where everything is it should be OK for you to take the boat out with your normal crew.

It will be a different ISO on Sunday and obviously the owner will be happy to take you for a spin but I don't want to pre-empt things by telling you it's OK to take their boat without the owner on board - it might also depend a bit on the weather conditions on the day.

Hope to see you at the weekend...

Jim.

Hi Jim,
thanks for the reply. We can't make the Saturday as Sue's working but we'll come along on the Sunday and take what's on offer. It would be good if we could try a boat together but I can understand the owner's cocern. In any case we'll get a better view on whether it's the right boat for us.

Thanks again,

Ron

Andy Holmes has just informed us that there will be two Buzzes on show. One will be on the stand whilst the other is on the water.

Big public thanks to Jim for his organisation at the Show. Well done Jim !!!

And many thanks to everyone who pitched in to help, inlcuding W&W for bringing both the new ISO and Buzz along to show them off.

Unfortunately the Show had not been promoted very well by the organisers and the public turn out was rather low. Nevertheless several people did come along for test sails, with Dave and Andrew Skinner doing a big chunk of the trips. Thanks guys !

Believe we have at least 2 interested teams and a possible L4k convert

Can't win 'em all - but it wasn't for the lack of trying on our part.

Thanks again Jim - good job

Bob
