Hi everyone

Sailing in our 2nd race last weekend in a handicap fleet of mainly Flying Fifteens and upwind we were really struggling to point. Now I reckon that the Fifteen will point higher anyway but we were way off and they were still carrying some speed in the maximum force 2 breeze.

Now I think I had everything set up right and we were most of the time going quite a lot faster but just couldn't point anywhere near what they could and it meant they were gaining on us!

Anybody any ideas as to what we could have got wrong? The only thing I can think of is that the sails being so old and stretched would be the problem!

Cheers
Micky

Hi Micky,

Not sure where you are based, but come along to the Herne Bay open this weekend if possible and there will be lots of advise and help waiting for you!!

Flying Fifteen's will always point higher, but old sails may not help. It may be that your sheeting angle on the jib isn't quite right, but other than that i'd have to see your ISO on the water to help further. Hopefully in more wind you'll leave the Fifteen's behind!!

Stuart.
