As the new rule on harnesses is going to come in to play in January, has anyone got any opinions or has tested any of the new quick release systems and what qualifies as a quick release?

Best I can suggest is to take a look at the main manufacturers - RWO, Sea Sure, Banks ( ball version ).

I hear there are various discussions still going on inside the RYA on this topic as a couple of other novel designs have been proposed. Ove to you on which you opt for and when.

I have had a look at some of them and the ball version looks quite interesting , but is it actually going to be classed as quick release? otherwise I think that the seasure one looks a bit flimsy and the RWO looks slightly better, but none of them look that sturdy and might come loose just when you don't want them too

Any quick release hook mechanism is going to put the thought into your mind that it could come loose when you don't want them to.

Ball and socket not sure about - not seen.

Sea-sure - unable to realease when under load.

RWO - can release when under load.

Any chance of a special price from RWO for this (QRH or what is it called?) conversion kit? or maybe as spot prizes for acts of exceptional ?whatever at coming events?
plan B - some helpful person with good connections at RWO (or his delegate) collects a list to enable bulk order to be placed at whatever favourable price is available. We nearly all need this kit and don't want to buy a complete new harness. I have 2 harnesses, ordinary, and medium for when I occasionally use it.

If anyone is concerned about security, I am happy to volunteer my highly-tuned body to proof-test any harness, which should then inspire confidence in the rest of the population who are lighter than me.

Have fun at Broadstairs, sorry I can't be there.

I bought a Banks Skiff pro as a replacement harness at the Dinghy show and have used it twice a week, every week since. No problems so far still releases when I push the button to test it.
Cheers

Hi,

Is the 'ball' harness being referred to the one on the following site?

http://www.bethwaite.com/4404,01,1-0-trapeze-harness.html

I have tried to find info the RYA site unsuccessfully. Can some post the link of latest RYA info on harnesses as well as any other useful reference sites, please?

Picking up Richard's (828) is there an opporunity hear for the family of classes to trial and recommend via their respective class association the nest QRH harnesses and then benefit from a disount of bulk order from the supplier(s)? What doe the committtee chairs think?
