I'm considering buying a Buzz for use by my son and me, but am concerned about our combined crew weight. I am 14.5 st and he is already 8.5 st and growing like a weed. Are we going to be too heavy for the Buzz? If so, what would anyone recommend as a good alternative?

Cheers

Gavin

I think right now you are NOT too heavy... if your son grows too much then consider swapping to an ISO, but I'd suggest you start with a Buzz now.

Hi all,
I sailed round Britain clockwise, some time ago on a Laser, unsupported, and would like to do the same but anticlockwise on a 2 man boat (it gets lonely on your own)
I bought a Fireball, but find it swamps easily, so want something that drains immediately. It has to be lightweight for dragging up beaches at low tide. (sod's law says that it's nearly always low tide when you want to come ashore)
I don't want to race so my only concern about weight is can a Buzz take say 2 X 12 or 13 stone guys, along with tent, sleeping bags and a certain amount of kit? Paolo suggested an ISO but that is 15KG heavier.

No problem with weight, I'd say, but possibly with space. A buzz is only 4.2 m, so there is not much space for placing all your things... more than a Fireball, I'd say, but if you want to use the kite then you need to be careful your stuff is not blocking the pole coming in and out, nor the kite getting back in place when you drop. Guess it can be done easily, but need to think about it first place!

Let us know how it goes!

I think it would be possible in a Buzz, although you may be short of room, however, if you managed in a Laser then you should have plenty!!

If you would like some company i'd consider doing it in our Buzz as well, provided Zoe also thought it was a good idea!!

My only thought for a different boat is one with a fordeck perhaps to keep some of the spray of your stuff, although presumably it would be in a waterproof bag anyway.
