Looking for some help here - I've got an ISO with the older style aluminium boom. The mainsheet attaches to the boom via two blocks riveted to the bottom of the boom. The rivets are corroding out & surrounding metal is slightly cracked so don't I trust re-riveting. Is there a recommended way of using webbing to attach to boom instead? Any thoughts welcome! Thanks |

All the newer booms use webbing straps for main sheet and kicker. You can try to make your own, or get them from wet and windy. They should be just big enough to go around the boom, too big and you will not get the boom over the center of the boat.

Another, but similar method is to use blocks similar to Harken 351's, which are 29mm Carbo Ti-Lite blocks (that's the description on the label!!). These blocks are designed to be tied to the boom and include the rope to do so, which i think is long enough for a boom, this enables you to easily attach the block nice and close to the boom as Dave mentions above.
