I have been reading the rigging guides and advice on the site as well as earlier threads and have a few questions for the experts.

Regarding rig tension - I have tried using a rig tension gauge but am not able to achieve sufficient tension (300lbs) due to running out of play in the lower part of the jib halyard system. The block is up against the stopper. (Presumably when using the tension gauge you should keep pulling on the gauge until you can't move it any further? The instructions weren't very clear). Does anyone have any guidance on the setup of the jib tensioning system? Is it normal to have different tension on the two shrouds?

Regarding the mast - I have a sideways bend in it which is not ideal, but can't afford to replace it at the moment. I have read that the mast can be packed at the gate - what do you use for packing?

Mark

Mark,

I had to spend a bit of time fiddling with the knots on the jib halyard system until I could get the correct lengths and therefore the correct tension. It took ages due to a mental ineptitude on my part and an irrational reluctance to untie the correct knot.

Also I found that although the mast was straight under no load from the rigging as soon as I cranked on the tension a bend appeared - so I moved one of the shroud adjustments down a bit to compensate and all seems OK now. Might be worth trying to straighten up you mast...?
Sorry don't know anything about packing in the gate.

Cheers,

Jim.

Mastgate packing can be any type of plastic that is in the form of a righ-angle. Have a dig around in the garage for some old wiring conduit/trunking! Its best to tape it in place because no matter how tight it is it seems to work loose...

Tim

PS Rig tension, as Jim says, play with the rope on the halyard tensioner. I know on 1207 we can on just get the hook only wire halyard to get the tension we require when its all pulled on, but that might just us doing something wrong...

Thanks for the advice chaps, I'll have a look for some plastic as you say Tim. I guess I'll have to have a play with the setup of the tensioner. Do you know if there are any photos of how it should look anywhere?

Hi Mark,

We will be about at YDSC on Sunday, come over and have a look at 806 so you can compare the jib wire tensioner with yours.

Regards

Rob
