Well me 'n' my crew are just about to take the plunge and buy a Boss. This particular boat is unmodified, old mast, small (!) kite etc. etc. Where does one go for mods & new bits?
When we raise our sailing standard above the pathetic level we will be joining you for some events but we must get the snorkel, flippers and aqua-lung first...
Tips or advice would be most welcome
PS Crew man, Biggus, is no lightweight... will the rig take 108 kilos? |

i think i remember a boss crew a couple of years back being 20 stone and they had no rig problems! Bloody quick upwind in a blow!

Welcome!Even with an old rig, you'll get a lot of bang for the buck. The person to contact about modifications is Graham Eeles, but for some reason, I can't find his number. I'll post it later, but maybe a trawl through previous posts on this forum will find it.
I reckon Biggus (is that the famous Biggus ****us?) should be OK on that Carbospar mast. I'm 90kg and the man at the back is not far short, so be happy you can power up when it blows. We've only broken two masts, one was a nice pitchpole at Shoreham, and the other was because a couple of bozos at Datchet |

Big 'Thank You' to Nick M & Pork pie eater for the welcome and the info. First I'll have to say sorry to you all 'cos lots of questions will be cropping up as time goes on...
Such as - Will the big kite work with and unmodified bow and the old mast? |

Bozos hey? Well you shouldnt have got in the way when we were coming downwind with the kite up at 20knots! haha regards insurance companies, our 49ers under Noble and the boss is under Devitt. Noble is awesome but a litlle bit pricey. Never had any problems from Devitt tho!! Nick

oh, and a tip for sailing a Boss....when the Murrays (no 796, that's 796) are on the same bit of water as you, keep clear. They have a special exemption from the rules which allows them right of way, even when they are windward boat. You have been warned. They don't call it Red Oktober for nothing |

oh, and to answer the question about big kite/old mast, I don't think you'll get a new kite down the old hole - it's just not big enough, unless all the filler's gone out of the sail. A Swiss boat at Garda had bolted a bar on the spaceframe behind the old hole to act as a chute, and this seemed to work. And, the old mast without upper spreaders can support the new kite, but I wouldn't like to try it in a blow. The Swiss guys managed OK at Garda, but I'm not sure if they hoisted it on the really windy day. But otherwise, they were as fast downwind as anyone |

it must be red oktober's stealth drive, u just couldnt see or hear it coming! THE SWISS BOAT HAD CRACKS FORMING IN THE DECK I THINK!!! they had to wack on so much tension to keep the mast in the air it was lifting the floor |
