I have recently advised 2 boats to change their ring style shroud bolts to the new kind. Was there any mod reqd. to the front, jib tack, bolt? Some seem to go right through and have a nut on the underside of the spaceframe tubing whereas at least one boat I looked at this weekend (No. 69x) the bolt didn't go right through the frame and looked like it was lifted a little from the frame. Also, these seem to be the old ring type. Do they not break if at the front? Thanks Colin

I also have the ring style shrout bolts, everything looks normal. is it dangerous (loose screwfitting or something)?? If it is... Can someone bring a spare set I can pay the wet and windy price in la rochelle?? Should be a pity to lose a mast because of some little gear..

The recognised mod seems to be to fit the shroud bolts and bow fitting from the Buzz. The bolts are 8mm diameter vs the standard 6mm - which do break occasionally. The rings also have been known to give way.
Bow bolt on mine goes right through the space frame with two large self tap screws at the front. Later, possibly production ones, are big pop rivets. plus bolt.
Don't forget to put Duralac on all stainless and aluminium items before putting them together - very important to stop electrolytic corrosion to both ali and stainless. |
